Tea plants is a naturally growing plants like other plants. Which are the plants growing in apical stage. But we should require low height of te bushes produces more leaves. Thats why we should adopt diffrents type of pruning method to keep tea bushes as a low spreading bush. it is necessary to ensure continuous vegetative growth and for this pruning is an very important opreation. pruning is an opreation in which bush is cut predetermined height periodically. depending on the depth of cut oruning have diffrents viz, light pruning, medium pruning, light skiffing, medium skiffing, deep skiffing, level of skiffing. Pruning opreation is normally carried out november to early february. Pruning and skiffing more imporatant operation of tea production. before we go to the skiffing and pruning we should know about different types to skiffing and prune memethod.
LP(light pruning) : it is cut given 4-5 cm above the last prune level (ffp2) It is order to ensure to renew shoots system for vigorous growth. In general LP is performed 20inc(5০cm) above the ground level.
Medium Pruning(MP) - the height of the bushes frame reaches a height beyond 80cm. in that time tipping become difficult so bush are pruned at the height 50-65cm above the ground level. at this pruning period remove all unproductive wood, remove knots, and reduce congestion of the bushe frame.
Rejuvention and Heavy prune(RP/HP) - it sole objective is to improve yielding and capacity of tea plant. some old but resonably good section to minimize loss of crop during uprooting and replanting. its is done about 40-45 cm above the ground level at plains in the nort east india. and in the hills region of china hybrid it is done about 15-37 cm above the ground level.
Coller prune(CP):
It cut is done 10cm above the ground level this cut is given 10cm above the ground level when the tea bushes become unproductive and root system still healthy.
Height Reduction Prune(HRP): this cut is given 70-75 cm above the ground level in plains only. objective of HRP is to reduce the height of the bushes with minimum loss of crop.
Deep skiffing: it cut should be done midway between previous pruning level and corrent tipping level. if LP is done about 20inc during this period tipping is required at 8inc above the LP level. then it is cut given 4inc above the ground level or 4inc below the tipping level.
Medium Skiffing:
when LP is done about 20inc during this period tipping requires at 8inc above the LP Level. Then it cut should be done about 6inc above the LP level or 2inc below the Tipping level.
Light Skiffing(LS): this cut is given corrent year tipping level or 1cm below to re-establish the tipping Table.
Level Of Skiffing(lOS): this cut is done about 5 cm above the previous tipping level to remove during plucking remaning the plucking point and old leaf.
