VEGETATIVE PROPAGATION:
1. Vegetative parts are those parts which are Involved in growth and nutrient uptake.
2. Propagation means multiplication.
3. Plants raised by this method is called a clone. A clone is an indefinite extension of a plant made by Vegetative propagation. The bush from which cuttings are taken.
THE CUTTING AND ASPECT OF PLANTING :
1. Hard leaf with 3 cm - 3.5 cm of stem and a dormant or slightly developed axil bud is the best cutting.
2. The basal cut is made obliquely more or less parallel to the leaf blade and the top cut.
3. Under North Open sloping shade or flat overhead shade, the cuttings should be planted with the top of the leaves pointing to the East whereas under low shade, they may be plantud willh the top of leaves pointing to the North.
4. At early stage (newly set cuttings) light falling on the cuttings should be low, around 30% of the incident radiation and in no case it should be allowed to reach the 40% level.
5. At the tima of satting of the Guttings care should be taken so that lcaf petiole remuins tree from the soil and be pressed down firmly to avoid air pocket.
SOIL :
1. Eelworm population should either be free or within safe limit and pH between 4.5 to 5.0.
2. In case of heavy soils addition of sand is essential to make the soil friable.
3. Preparation of the beds/sleeve filling and their shading should be completed 8 weeks before planting of cuttings.
4. Sleeve size : 15 cm x 22.5 cm.
180 cft :3000 sleeves.
THINNING OF SHADE :
1. Should start after about 6 months.
2. Autumn cuttings should be unshaded by May/Spring cuttings by September.
In nursery routine control of pest and disease is necessary.
